Lookeast Magazine: Southern Thai Food

I love the spicy!
So imagine my amazement when I visited Southern Thailand and found that some of their dishes matched my mother’s in spiciness.
It made me think of home. However, the deep South of Thailand is sadly an area that many are too afraid to actually visit. Places like Pattani and Songkhla are plagued with political turmoil and factionalism, but that doesn’t mean you have to miss out on the experience of such a rich and exciting cuisine…

Lookeast Magazine: Make Small Change for Change

In comparison to some of the people I’ve encountered on my journeys, I have lived a charmed life.

Ever since moving to Thailand, I have really become interested in many of the grassroots charities here. This article is a lovely introduction for anyone interested in charitable organisations in Bangkok.

Lookeast Magazine: 40th Edition

I’m a maudlin creature.
With every new collaboration, published photograph, or work, it strengthens my resolve.
If I’m being honest, there are some days when I wake up and want to pack it all in. But something about seeing your name in print, makes it all worth it.

Lookeast is a goliath when it comes to affairs, lifestyle and coverage of the region, so imagine how awestruck I felt, when they asked me to join their team of writers. Here’s their very first edition for 2016, which is also coincidentally their 40th edition. It’s been so much fun, and I can’t wait to do more…

And so that concludes my publications for Christmas and New Year’s. As well as making some really good friends, I have to say that I really enjoyed every second of it. My waistline is in need of some tough love but, judging by all the pictures, you’ll all agree with me that it was worth it.

Bangkok Post: Anantara’s Biscotti

There was a slight hiccup in this article. I wrote it.
These things happen, but luckily I always put my name on the blurb....

Veterans to the Bangkok food scene will know of it, newcomers should definitely try it… Zipporah Gene pays a visit to a dazzling enduring Italian gem, in the heart of Bangkok

Bangkok Post: Royal Orchid Sheraton

In need of some true Christmas spirit, Zipporah Gene heads to the Royal Orchid Sheraton, for a taste of their Christmas cheer.

All the glitzy and the glamourous aside, Christmas, for me, really boils down to a good meal, in a great area, surrounded by fantastic people.

Seeing as how this is my first Christmas in Bangkok, I was finding it a bit difficult to reconcile 30++ degree heat with all the bells and whistles that you expect from Santa.

So imagine my surprise when I visited the lovely ladies and darling Chef who work at Royal Orchid Sheraton. Not only did they have such a beautiful spread, they made me feel at home. It’s not often that I leave a review feeling like I’ve made friends, but I definitely had this with these. It feels like a real family affair and that’s why I’d definitely recommend this place for a lost lamb, like me.

Bangkok Post: Yamazato at The Okura Prestige

Simple, elegant and insanely delicious…Zipporah Gene makes her pilgrimage, for a culinary adventure in the elite art of Kaiseki cuisine

My obsession with 日本料理 (nihonryōri/ Japanese food) stretches further back than I can even remember. I love the care, I love the attention to detail, I’m enthralled by the maddening meticulousness. It’s often likened to haute cuisine, but I believe that it’s in a league all of its own.

When I found out that I’d be trying the world famous dishes from Yamazato, I practically wet myself with excitement.
The experience proved beyond my expectation and only served to deepen my love for Kaiseki cuisine.

It’s on my list of things I want to try my hand at, even if I will only ever scratch the surface.

Bangkok Post: Centara Grand

Zipporah Gene heads off to Centara Grand at Central Plaza Ladprao Bangkok to try their ultra-luxurious festive delight

I thought this was for eating. I was wrong

So as far as spas go, I’m pretty spoiled.

Bangkok has an impressive array of spas to suit your every need and, let’s just say, that I have a lot of needs.

But let’s just say that not all spas are created equally.
I was truly impressed by everything from the service, to the ambience, down to the shower caps that fit my unruly bouffant hair. They definitely took the time to think about everything here.

Bangkok Post: Le Meridien Suvarnabhumi

It’s been a week or so since I visited Le Meridien, but if you asked me again to describe it, I would honestly say that:

“this is an absolutely wonderful place, run by a delightful team, with insanely delicious food”.

I love visiting places that makes the oohs and aahs fall out of your mouth. This is definitely the place for that.
It’s just so unreal and I keep telling myself that I’ll go back.

Scratch that.

I have to go back.

Bangkok Post: A Winter Extravaganza

I came, I saw… I ate my entire body weight in lamb.

All my friends are sick to death of hearing it, but I’m awfully proud of my first ever front pager.
To me, this will always be a reminder that I can do what I love, enjoy it immensely and get recognition for it.
Writing is something that I feel to my core, whether it’s talking about food, travel, life or the nitty gritty of politics and identity; when I write, I am more.

I got lucky and was allowed, by the lovely guys over at the Bangkok Post, to try out some of the best events that the festive season had to offer.

My first assignment was the Glasshouse at Sindhorn.
